Introduction:

In a first-of-its-kind partnership, Mysa, the accommodation technology company, and the Travel Risk Academy (TRA) have formed a dedicated safety focus group to address a long-standing challenge in the corporate accommodation sector: the absence of consistent safety and security standards.

This initiative brings together corporate buyers, HR, risk managers, and accommodation providers to collaborate on defining a minimum level of ‘good practice’ in accommodation safety—supporting both traveller wellbeing and corporate duty of care responsibilities.

The Why: Building a Safer, Smarter Accommodation Ecosystem

There’s currently no universal benchmark for accommodation safety across the corporate travel industry. This creates challenges on both sides:

  • Buyers lack visibility and standardised criteria when selecting providers.
  • Accommodation providers must navigate varying expectations from different organisations.

The safety focus group’s mission is to create an industry-wide baseline—an entry-level framework that defines and demonstrates what ‘good practice’ should look like for safety and security.

The Role of Technology in Evidence-Based Risk Management

The working group is also exploring how Mysa’s verification technology can support this framework. Through digital property assessments, photo and document evidence, and structured risk protocols, buyers can gain greater assurance—and accommodation providers can demonstrate readiness and compliance without the burden of bespoke processes for each client.

“Our technology enables visibility and consistency. This initiative gives both buyers and providers a shared language for safety, backed by evidence.”
Gary Hurst, Founder & CEO, Mysa

A Partnership Rooted in Risk Strategy

“At TRA, we believe that optimised travel risk management starts with clarity and alignment. By addressing what organisations need, what they have, and how to improve it, we support safer decision-making across the programme lifecycle.”
Bex Deadman, Co-founder, Travel Risk Academy

The partnership is grounded in shared values of transparency, optimisation, and risk mitigation—and a desire to empower organisations with tools that support end-to-end traveller safety.

Where We Go from Here

The initial working group has already identified core security risk factors and essential mitigation expectations from a buyer’s perspective. The next phase is to expand this group into a steering committee and open up the draft framework for industry-wide input by early 2025

This is more than a thought leadership initiative—it’s a call for action and collaboration.
